ABOUT

The Event

Kites and Castles is Lake McConaughy's longest running event.  Held every July--except once-- since 1989.

The Lake

Lake McConaughy is Nebraska's largest lake, surrounded by a State Recreation Area with miles of public access beaches.

The Sand

Built on the edge of a unique geographic formation known as the Sandhills means that this lake on the high plains of Nebraska has white sand to play in.

The Water

Cool off in Lake McConaughy's fresh water.  Take a swim, wade, or stick around to join Kayak the Castles and tour the magnificent creations as the day cools off.

Family Fun

Bring the kids.  Stay the day.  Stay the weekend.  Kites and Castles is a free event to enter or view.  Only a state park entry permit is required to enter the lake.

Event Location

Swim Beach to the East of the Low Water Boat Ramp. Martin Bay, Lake McConaughy

Please look for our Kites and Castles signs when you arrive. Please park in the upper dirt parking lot (suitable for all vehicles) and follow the pedestrian path down to the beach area. Please keep an eye on children, pets, and boat ramp traffic. Please avoid walking down the boat ramp.
